A Guide to Buying Manual Wheelchairs and Electric Motorized WheelchairsRE: What you need to consider when purchasing electric motorized wheelchairs and manual wheelchairsIn the past, I've had several friends that have needed to use wheelchairs in their lives. It may surprise you that buying an wheelchair whether it is an electric motorized wheelchair or a manual one is very similar to buying a car today, and that is because there are so many different types of models and options to consider that you actually be surprised at the variety. However, buying wheelchair is not exactly the same as buying a car because it is a device that you will use even more than you do your own car if you're disabled. Thanks to modern-day technology, purchasing one of these advanced wheelchairs is a far more complicated yet important decision making because of all of the things that you can do. Not only are there all sorts of assistive technology devices that are attached to the wheelchairs, but you have many different types of colors, features and options that are available to people who need a device of this nature. When you consider the fact that many children are handicapped, then you'll see why different styles and colors become very important because these are the toughest customers that are out there as far as styles are concerned.
When purchasing a wheelchair, you need to consider a person's ability and requirements that are needed for their particular situation or handicap. If you have person that has weak legs and a strong upper body, then they will require a much different of the wheelchair the person who has a weak upper body and very strong legs. This can be the difference between a person that will purchase an electric motorized wheelchair and one that will purchase a regular manual wheelchair that they can push with their own arms and hands. This brings us to the two basic types of wheelchairs that are out there, manual wheelchairs and electric motorized wheelchairs. As you may know, electric wheelchairs are the variety that has electric motors built on to them so that a person only has to use a joystick or a set of controls to manipulate and guide themselves around with. Due to the advances in technology, people who are used to other people to push their wheelchair for them now have the ability and independence to move about freely on their own unencumbered by the process of having to find somebody to push their will cheer. This creates a tremendous boost to the person's self-esteem and grants them a sense of independence. There are two basic styles of electric motorized wheelchairs, the first one is led be considered a traditional style power wheelchair which looks much like a standard manual wheelchair except that has a motor on it with a battery underneath the seat. These types of wheelchairs are fairly inexpensive in the world of wheelchairs and are not quite as expensive as some of the other models that are made for people that you assistive technology to help him get to the day. The second type of wheelchair is a power wheelchair with fixed seating systems. This is the same as the manual wheelchair yet it to those the ability to move the seat up or down. Other types of Wheelchairs Not only are there manual and electric types of wheelchairs, but there are motorized wheelchairs can also have other features that are very beneficial to the people that need them. For example there are detachable wheelchairs which allow the armrest and footrests to be detached so that the user will have much more flexibility in whatever capacity that they will need this wheelchair for. There also orthopedic wheelchairs that carry elevated footrests and offer different levels of support for the patient that needs to use this device. Another type of interesting wheelchair of the lightweight sports models which are manual, of course. These wheelchairs offer the patient ability to have a stronger upper body and the require much less maintenance than motorized wheelchairs. Tips on Buying a Manual or Electric Wheelchair for Less Money If I were the market right now to buy a wheelchair for myself, I would check many of the places online that have auctions for a better price. eBay is probably the most obvious of all of the auction sites for you to go to and you may be a little find a much cheaper price there than anyplace else. You also could take a look at Craig's list to see if there are any wheelchairs available in your area. If the wheelchair is being sold by a private individual that you can have a conversation with, then I would try to talk them down on the price somewhat.
We hope this guide on electric motorized wheelchairs and manual wheelchairs has helped you in your quest to finding the right one for you or your family member.
