(For Part 1 Click Here)

Electric Bike and Electric Scooter Consideration #5 - Weight Allowance This is kind of a touchy subject these days, but another factor you will have to consider in your quest to buy a good electric scooter or electric bicycle is the weight of the person that will be riding it. A good rule of thumb to think about is anyone under 200 lbs can ride an electric bike or scooter and the range will usually be what the manufacturer has stated it will be. If you are over that limit, then you are decreasing the distance the batteries and the electric motor can carry you.

Usually the manufacturer will tell you how far you can go on a single charge...

Electric Bike and Electric Scooter Consideration #4 - Battery Range The distance that an electric motorized bike or an electric motorized scooter can carry you is one of the more important considerations. Usually the manufacturer will tell you how far you can go on a single charge. However, you must be careful about this because the manufacturer has tested this factor under ideal conditions usually. In most cases an e-scooter or an e-bike can carry you 8 to 20 miles, but this is a factor that you have to figure along with the expense of the electric vehicle. The more range that you will need, the more money you will probably have to shell out.

Electric Bike and Electric Scooter Consideration #3 - Speed Here is yet another factor that will be affected by price. If you want a road model electric scooter like the Vectrix, that can hit 70 mph in about 30 seconds then you can spend almost as much money as you would on purchasing a car!!! If you want an e-bike or e-scooter that is much cheaper ,then speeds of around 20 mph are about as fast as you will get them. Once again, the manufacturer has a stated speed and that is usually tested under ideal conditions. Remember here are several factors that contribute to speed: Weight of the passenger, tire pressure, terrain and other factors can affect the speed and distance of your electric vehicle.

I would recommend spending more money on a better product..

Electric Bike and Electric Scooter Consideration #2 - Price Personally, I would recommend spending more money on a better product. There is an old story about a salesman that was selling copy machines to some executives at some big company and one of the executives got all hung up on the cost of the copier. The salesman asked, " Are you concerned with price or cost?" The company big shot asked what the difference was. The salesman said, " I have a son that wanted a bicycle. We went to the store to look at the one he wanted but the price was considerable for a bicycle. So, we opted for a much cheaper model. We went home and on the second day the chain fell off. We couldn't get the chain back on, so we went to the bike repair store and got it fixed for $10.00. A couple of days later the seat broke and we had to get another one. $15.99. About another two weeks something else broke and before I knew it I had already shelled out $50.00. If I had bought the higher quality model, I would have saved time, gas money, repair money and my son would have been a lot happier. The point of this story is; are you concerned with cost or price? You see, the price was cheaper on the bike we bought, but the cost was much higher." This is a good story to remember when purchasing an electric bicycle or an electric scooter. If the bike or scooter is real cheap then chances are the cost will b higher in the long run.

One of the ways you can protect yourself is to find out where the e-scooters were made...

Electric Bike and Electric Scooter Consideration #1 - Quality This is the most important factor to consider. If you really read the previous paragraph you will understand how I feel about quality. There are other things to consider when you talk about quality. One of them is where the product is made at. I'm a musician; I would never buy a musical instrument from any country other than the US, Japan, Germany and a couple other select European countries, because the quality is very high in these countries. Most other places that you will purchase from will have lower standards and shoddy craftsmanship. One of the ways you can protect yourself is to find out where the e-scooters were made and how long the company has been around. I would stick to a proven brand name and check around on the Google search engine for reviews of the electric bike or electric scooter that you are planning on purchasing. Another thing to consider is if the vehicle has a warranty. You want to at least get a warranty that is 90 days in length. The longer the better.
