Electric Scooters had to be Ugly?

by Mark Ellis

You have to admit, the average electric scooter is not too sexy. Despite the fact that the technology of electric motorized scooters and bikes has moved forward due to fuel prices, there really hasn't been too much attention paid to asthetics. Enter the Vectrix!

The Vectrix (refered to as an electric, maxi-scooter by its creators) has been touted as the world's first high-performance electric two-wheel vehicle to offer all the benefits of a traditional gasoline-powered scooter.

The creators of this electric scooter didn't sacrifice performance for looks either. The Vectrix has a driving distance of up to 68 miles on a single charge while being able to safely zip along from 0 to 50 in just under 7 seconds. The designers gave the Vectrix a low center of gravity and an even weight distribution so that the scooter would have excellent handling capabilities.

One of the most impressive features that the Vectrix has is its patented throttle-activated regenerative braking system (DAaRT™). With this feature, the engineers have combined the throttle and the braking system into one mechanisim. All you have to do is twist the throttle for instant acceleration, and when it’s time to slow down or stop, twist the throttle forward to activate regenerative braking, which slows the Vectrix maxi-scooter smoothly and safely. Also, this feature helps to extend range of the electric scooter by up to 12% by redirecting energy back into the battery during braking.

If you are concerned about pushing and pulling your bike into a parallel parking position, well, you won't have to worry about that either. The Vectrix has a throttle that controls a slow-speed reverse function - making it easy to maneuver in and out of tight parking spaces.

Combine these features with the usual benefits of zero emissions, noise or traffic hang ups and you'll have a ride that is not only beneficial but good looking.
