Optibike Battery Replacement Guide For those of you that are Optibike owners, we have dedicated this page to replacing be battery pack on the Optibike. While this site does not claim to be experts on the replacement of any electric bike parts, we do find helpful information on the Internet sometimes that will allow us to collate this information and present it to you in a manner that may be helpful. Since Optibikes are very advanced electric bicycles, the replacement procedure for the batteries is more difficult than on a regular electric bicycle. The batteries are actually built into the frame of the bike to allow the sleek and efficient design a chance for high-performance. However, with great innovation comes great challenges, and replacing the electric batteries on this particular brand of bicycle is more complicated. We have attempted to give you step-by-step instructions as to how to replace the batteries on an Optibike. You should not take these instructions as gospel, and you should consult the Optibike Electric Bike Company if you are having any misgivings about trying to replace these batteries. However, people have replaced these batteries on the Optibike and these are the instructions that we have found from several sites and individuals that have done so.
Remember, if you have never done this procedure before, then you will need to have a considerable amount of time on your hands to make sure that you can complete this process. Usually, when the manufacturer tells you to assemble something or replace something, they will give you the approximate time that it will take to fix a problem or replace a part. However, you must remember that the manufacturers are usually working under perfect conditions, they have people who have repaired or replaced parts before, and know exactly what to do. They also have all of the tools at their disposal and experienced people who can help them, which gives them a second pair of hands that are experienced as well.
Step 1: Remove the Rear Triangle Section The first thing that you will need to do is to remove the rear section of the e-bike. This section when viewed from the side looks like a triangular section. However, if you do not remove this part of the electric bicycle, then it will be impossible to remove the batteries from inside the frame.
TIP ! It is a good idea to get an old white towel and lay your parts on it as you take your e-bike apart, so you can find them as you need them.
Step 2: Getting Inside of The Battery Housing. After you have seperated the rear triangular part of the electric bike, you will have to take off the chain ring (the part that the chain threads through) There is a bolt that you will need to remove called "the swing arm bolt" to remove the arm from the top of the rear section of the Optibike. You want the entire rear section completely off so that you can get to the battery section. There will be 8 battery retention bolts that you will beed to remove in order to get to the batteries. (Please see the picture to the left.) Tip: Don't forget to lay and organize your bolts on the white towel we mentioned earlier.
Step 3: Remove the Batteries
Notice! Do not attempt to disconnect any other wires but the battery wires. There are other wires still connected to the motor and you don't want to take those off. After this step, all that you need to do is replace the Lithium Ion batteries and put the electric bike back together, reversing all of the steps that you took disassebling this part of the Optibike.
