Electric Scooters - A Primer to Those Who See the Light to Future TransportBy FalconEV (www.FalconEV.com) How to buy an electric scooter; Before we begin; If you are considering a gasoline burning, polluter scooter: Yes, the price is cheaper up front, but you have to keep paying and paying to keep it running. OK, first we are assuming - A. you don't want to burn gasoline because of the noxious, poisonous fumes emitted and the geo-political consequences of who and where the USA has to send money to, to buy it.. B. you don't equatepower with loud engine noises ( like Harley riders ) C. you have access to electricity D. you know that E-scoots will cost more to purchase, but pay for themselves as you use them. E. You get what you pay for ! You pay less, you get less. You pay more, you get more.. The goal isn't to use less gas…It's to not use any gas. People's biggest concerns today are; speed, torque, range, price, quality and reliability. Let me sum it all up right now - You get what you pay for ! You pay less, you get less. You pay more, you get more..more performance, better quality Speed - If in traffic, a minimum of 40mph is needed Torque - The higher the motor wattage, the better. Better able to climb hills Range - The most variable; depends on rider weight, # and steepness of hills, # of stop and goes, average top speed. If you can maintain momentum w/o coming to an absolute stop, the better. Surveys show people think they need more range than they actually use. This is why you see outlandish range figures advertised. They know that's what people want to hear. Batteries - Lead Acid vs Lithium.. With Lead - count on ½ the battery Ah to get estimated range in miles. Ie. A scooter w 30Ah batteries will go 15 miles. A little more when new, a lot less when they start to die after 6 months. Lead batteries are not used in future EV's. Lithium is best as they are ½ the weight, lasts 5 X's longer, more power per charge, much better environmentaly, increased scooter performance. Lithium Iron Phosphate packs are cheaper in the long run. A good quality scooter is sold by good quality sellers. There are more sellers of cheap, low quality units than higher quality more dependable machines. Where to buy… The main reason motorcycle / scooter shops don't sell E-scoots is, they make less profit. Most profit is in the repair, parts and maintenance/service area, with an E-scoot, there is none ! Simple owner upkeep is all that's needed, like a bicycle. This leaves mainly internet sellers. Not an easy task to figure out. Best way is to investigate the type E-scoot that will meet your needs. A good quality scooter is sold by good quality sellers. There are more sellers of cheap, low quality units than higher quality more dependable machines. Low quality cheaper scooters are over hyped and discounted frequently. Who to buy from….. Someone who cares about the environment and the future of Electric Transportation. They need a good understanding of batteries. Sales people hired to " move those color TV's" rarely do. Warranties… Do they have one ? One year is standard What to buy… Find the best product out there that meets your needs. Worry about price afterwords. If you cant afford it, don't waste your $ on something you'll regret later on. The Battman
