Who Killed the Electric Car?

A Review

by Elmo

Today I had the opportunity to watch the DVD Who Killed the Electric Car? with my 10th grade class. I have to tell you that I have never seen my students get madder than I did when they watched this video. Apparently, even our young people can spot a situation where someone is trying to take advantage of the average person. I have to admit, it was a very depressing scenario especially in light of the fact that our gas prices jumped way up once again this week. When will America move into the 21st-century and get rid of all of this fossil fuel that we've become so dependent on?

These cars ran silently, required very little maintenance, and emitted no fumes of any sort ...

I guess what the DVD unveiled to us all, was the fact that normal average cars that we see everyday, can be run totally and very efficiently with electricity. I, as well as my class, did not know that passenger electric cars and electric SUVs that you see everyday were actually all over Southern California and operating perfectly well. These cars ran silently, required very little maintenance, and emitted no fumes of any sort. The people that owned them, loved them. California during the 1990s implemented and tested electric cars all over the state and even installed electric charging stations that could power up car within two minutes.

The only major problem that the electric car faced was the fact that it had enemies in very high places. Of course, oil companies didn't like the electric car because it would squash their trillion dollar industry and allow people to become independent from them. Car manufacturers didn't like the thought of electric cars for several reasons. One reason, was because the factories would have to retool and that was going to be an expense that a lot of the manufacturers didn't want.

You see, there are no oil changes, or major repairs to the engine or emission systems

The other side of this, was cars dealerships didn't like the electric car either, due to the fact that electric motors require very little maintenance. You see, there are no oil changes, or major repairs to the engine or emission systems because the electric car did not need any of those components. The electric car's motor had extremely low maintenance problems and therefore did not need to have service or to be repaired very often.

Of course, this would really hurt many car dealerships because this is where they maintain their profits. The car manufacturers would lose out because they no longer would be selling parts left and right either. Politicians didn't like the electric cars because their hands are in the pockets of the big oil companies and God knows that they need their reelection funds worse than anything else in America.

The car manufacturers took back every single electric car they had and loaded them up and shiped them to secret places where the cars could be totally shredded and destroyed ..

And just to make things worse, the oil companies who own companies, on top of companies, on top of companies, ad nauseam, controlled or influenced insurance companies not to insure the electric cars. The car manufacturers were smart enough to know that they had a real battle on their hands if they decided to sell electric cars. So the manufacturers, did not really sell the cars, they leased them. That way if the velvet hammer fell on them, they could get the cars back legally from every single person they leased the vehicle to, which is exactly what they did. The car manufacturers took back every single electric car they had and loaded them up and shiped them to secret places where the cars could be totally shredded and destroyed. Not one single piece of the electric cars were left, anywhere.

I guess the saddest part of the whole thing, was the fact that our elected officials are doing absolutely nothing to stand up for us. I don't care what political party you are a part of, they both suck. There, I said it. The Republicans are weak and ineffective and the Democrats think that our country is just one big party. Neither party truly represents Americans or what is really good for them.

We all had a good laugh when we watched the DVD together and the politicians were telling the American public that the electric car was going to be bad for them in the long run. If either party truly cared about the American people they would tell everybody to cut their credit cards, quit going to fast food restaurants and then would fight to get us tax breaks on capital gains investments like the rest of the world has. But unfortunately, the American Sheeple continue to believe what either party tells them, and that is always to the advantage of the big multinational corporations that control our lives.

The technology is in place for us to be free of this fuel problem and our government knows it.

The only way to cure this problem as I see it, is to have a grass-roots movement. Were going to need a lot of very serious activists that are going to get the American people galvanized on this issue. The heritage of being an American is to love freedom at any cost. You do not have freedom as long as most of the money that you work for everyday has to be spent on fuel just to get to work. The technology is in place for us to be free of this fuel problem and our government knows it.

If you truly want to see oil prices drop, and alternative fuel for cars that is far cheaper than gas then you need to phone your elected representative and tell him or her that you are fed up. Get together in groups and and form your own group or club and your own group of people. I would recommend having a meeting of like-minded citizens once a month that could would get together and write petitions and write letters and explain to these politicians in no uncertain terms that if they do not do the will of their constituents they will be voted out of office. You see, they hate it when you tell them you are forming a group and collectively your group will influence others and have them forced out. Your elected officials are scared to death of an organized group that has voting power so don't think that we as a like-minded group of people have to take this nonsense anymore. I would highly recommend you buy a copy of Who Killed the Electric Car? and playing it to your friends and circulating it through your families so that everyone can see that we don't need to be driving fossil fuel vehicles around for the rest of our lives. Do it for your children and grandchildren so that they will have a much cleaner, healthier and financially free country.
