Scooters-The Basics

by Elmo

If you want to have fun while running around town doing errands then we may have a welcome relief for you in a newer technology; electric scooters.

Scooters became very big during the 1960’s and early 70’s because of their low cost and gas savings. Even though America went through a gas crisis during the 1970’s bigger cars and motorcycles still sold well as Americans craved luxury and engine power over fuel independence.

The term scooter refers to a subclass of motorcycle that has a particular design that is reminiscent of a child’s motorized push scooter. The actual design of the scooter is usually defined as a two wheeled vehicle that has wheels that are from 8 to 14 inches in diameter. They have step through frames and the engines are low and close to the rear wheel. There is usually a seat on an electric motor scooter and leg shields that even though are common on motorcycles, have definite differences in design.

Today, a grass roots movement has begun to spread across the world as technology and fuel consumption are colliding in what may be a the final battle between alternative fuels and new transportation, versus dependency on fossil fuels.

In many countries such as China it is not uncommon to see the electric scooters everywhere. The average electric motor scooter can average about 45 miles an hour and travel from up to 30 to 50 miles. The energy consumption for these vehicles is translated to $.15 cents per mile which is cheaper than a piece of candy from your local store. The only drawback to the obvious benefits of riding an electric scooter is the initial outlay of cash for one of these vehicles .

Depending on how fast and far you have to travel, the prices can range from the low end, which is about $500.00 and can run up to $5000.00 for higher end models.

Considering the long term gas savings from riding an electric scooter, the initial outlay of money will be minimized by the low gas, low maintenance and absolute fun you will get from riding an electric motorized scooter
