3 More Things to Consider When Buying an Electric Scooter

By Elmo

In an earlier article entitled “3 Things to Consider When Buying an Electric Scooter” I talked about factors to consider when purchasing an electric motor scooter. This time I’m going to give you three more things to consider when purchasing an electric scooter.

#1 Range of Electric Scooter

They make some models that can run at about 15 to 20 miles per hour but they will run into the $1700 to 2300 range.. If you have to drive a considerable distance to work you will probably looking at a model that is pretty expensive. They make some models that can run at about 15 to 20 miles per hour but they will run into the $1700 to 2300 range.

There are even more expensive models of electric scooters being developed out there that are using newer more expensive batteries and of course they are even more expensive. Also another thing to consider is the weight capacity that you will be using. If you have a weight of over 200 pounds then you will affect the distance and the ability to climb hills on cheaper model e-scooters.

Also, another factor to consider in buying an electric scooter is the power of its motor. We will discuss that issue in a minute when we speak of the terrain you will be riding on.

#2 Portability and Storage

If you are working in an office and have a small space to store your electric scooter, then a model that folds may be a good choice for you. If you weigh under 200 lbs. Then just about any light model would be easy to ride and the lighter model can fold and be easily stored away.

However, most grown adults are 200 lbs. and this option may not be practical for most of us. But, if you are able of have a young person that wants to take along the electric motorized scooter then you may need one that can fold up and fit conveniently. If this is one of your concerns, always check the dimensions of your trunk before you purchase one of these lighter e-scooters.

#3 Power of the Motor (Wattage)

Whenever you consider some of the factors involved in the purchase of an electric scooter, one of the main features that you will have to be concerned with is the strength of the motor itself. This is known in common terms as “Wattage”. If you are less than 200 lbs. in weight, then you will need an electric motor scooter with a rating of about 300 watts or more. If you are over 200lbs then you will also have to consider a motor with a higher rating.

Of course, you know that e-scooters with higher watts or more powerful electric motors will run you more money. Another thing that determines what type of motor you will need is the type of terrain you will be riding on. The best type of terrain to ride an electric scooter on is a flat area or, at least an area with small hills and level roads. The bottom line is, if you want to ride around like an off road vehicle, then you will need an e-scooter with a more powerful motor.

Happy riding!
